*Gastero Esophageal Reflux Disorder (GERD)*
IT is a syndrome resulting from oesophageal tissue damage as a result or regurgitation of gastric acid (stomach content) into the oesophagus.
*Causes*
1. Incompetence of lower oesophageal sphinctor.
2. Slow or absent oesophagus clearance.
3. Delayed gastric evacuation.
4. Injury effects of reflex.
*Clinical feature*
- Heartburn (burning in chest)
-Regurgitation of sour or bitter gastric content in mouth
-Dyspepsia (Loss of appetite)
*Screening Test*
Barium meal examination
Upper endoscopy
Oesophageal manometry
Ambulatory oesophageal pH monitoring
Management
1. Avoidance of spicy , fatty food, tea, coffee, alcohal, cold drink, chocolate etc.
2. Reduce overweighted weight.
3. Avoidance of lying down within 3 hours of meal
4. Keep the head end of bed raised at least 6 inches.
